Uganda Cranes 1-0 Botswana | Fifa World Cup Qualifiers

• Uganda 1-0 Botswana

Typical forward Shaban Muhammad came from the bench to win it for Uganda against Botswana in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, marking Cranes’ perfect return to Mandela National stadium since 2019.

Shaban was too quick to tap home another super sub Denis Omedi’s inviting pass from the right leaving goalkeeper Phoko Goitseone helpless in the 74th minute.

The Cranes pounced on an electrifying atmosphere from the fans to dictate play right from the onslaught. And it was just a matter of time as the goal for Uganda was imminent.

Roving right back Elvis Bwomono had the best of opportunities for Uganda in the first half. He had a header saved by the keeper Phoko and later sent a fierce low drive which was kept out.

Allan Okello also picked up Fahad Bayo whose resultant header was foiled before Ronald Ssekiganda had a distant stunner saved.

Steven Mukwala and Elvis Bwomono were rested for Shaban Muhammad and midfielder Bobosi Byaruhanga.

At 70 minutes, head coach introduced Omedi for Fahad Bayo and the impact of this change was felt almost immediately.
