Pope Francis Appoints Fr. Constantine Rupiny as New Bishop of Nebbi Diocese
Pope Francis has appointed Fr. Constantine Rupiny as the new Bishop of Nebbi Diocese, following the elevation of Archbishop Raphael Wokorach to the Archbishopric of Gulu. This announcement comes as part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the leadership in the Catholic Church in Uganda.
Fr. Rupiny, a seasoned cleric, has been serving as the Rector of the Uganda Martyrs Seminary in Alokulum, Gulu, a position he has held with distinction. His leadership at the seminary has been marked by his commitment to the formation of future priests and his strong pastoral care for the local community. He succeeds Archbishop Wokorach, who was recently appointed as the new Archbishop of Gulu after serving as Bishop of Nebbi for several years.
In a statement released by the Holy See, Pope Francis expressed his gratitude to Bishop Wokorach for his dedication to the Nebbi Diocese and wished him well in his new role in Gulu. The Pope also extended his congratulations to Fr. Rupiny, praising his exemplary service in the Church and his pastoral zeal, which are expected to guide the faithful of Nebbi Diocese in the years to come.
Fr. Rupiny’s appointment is expected to bring a new era of growth and spiritual leadership to Nebbi Diocese, which is located in the northwestern region of Uganda. His appointment comes as the Church continues to address the pastoral needs of Uganda’s growing Catholic community and to foster unity and collaboration among the dioceses.
As the new Bishop of Nebbi, Fr. Rupiny will take over responsibilities for overseeing the spiritual welfare of the diocese, shepherding its clergy and lay leaders, and fostering the Church’s mission of evangelization, education, and social justice in the region.
The Catholic community in Nebbi Diocese and across Uganda has warmly welcomed Fr. Rupiny’s appointment, and preparations are underway for his episcopal ordination, which will officially mark the start of his new role.
Fr. Rupiny’s deep roots in Uganda’s religious community, combined with his dedication to priestly formation and pastoral care, make him a promising leader for the Diocese of Nebbi as it continues to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the modern world.
