Police Raids Crack Down on Drug Trafficking and Robbery Across Kampala Suburbs

In a coordinated operation to curb crime and drug trafficking, police have conducted multiple raids in the suburbs of Kitintale, Portbell, Luzira, and Kifuufu, resulting in the arrest of 19 suspects. The police spokesman, Patrick Onyango, described these areas as hotspots for marijuana trafficking and robbery, necessitating heightened law enforcement action.

“The crackdown aims to dismantle networks involved in drug trafficking and associated crimes. We are committed to restoring safety and order in these communities,” Onyango stated.

In addition to the Kitintale-area raids, a broader operation across the Kampala Metropolitan region led to further arrests. Police apprehended 30 individuals in Kira Division, 47 in Mukono, and 20 in Kampala City for possession of opium and related offenses. The suspects are currently being held at the Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala for further interrogation and legal processing.

The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. Onyango emphasized, “Community cooperation is vital in tackling these issues. Together, we can ensure safer neighborhoods for everyone.”

Residents have expressed mixed reactions to the operation. While some lauded the effort to reduce crime, others called for addressing the root causes, such as unemployment and youth disenfranchisement, to achieve lasting peace.

The operation underscores the police’s commitment to intensifying efforts against drug-related crimes and safeguarding public safety. Investigations are ongoing, and suspects will face prosecution if found guilty of the charges.
