8 Rescued from Lake Victoria After Boat Collision; One Still Missing
Eight members of a Kampala band were on Sunday evening rescued from the waters of Lake Victoria after a cruise boat they were travelling on capsized after colliding with another at Ggaba
The incident according to Police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke when members of members of the Saxo Flames Band, were returning from a performance at Divine Beach in Mukono district.
The band members’ boat was knocked by another boat that later sped off after causing the accident.
“Our Marine Police team rushed to the scene and rescued eight members of the band while another colleague of theirs is still missing,” Rusoke said.
He identified the missing missing member as Emma Wangada whom he said efforts to trace him are still ongoing.
The rescued band members have been identified as Sharon Mujuzi, Dennis Ntambi, David Matou, Grace Nayiga, Josh Muwanguzi, Jill Mukaya, Derrick Maganda and one Manitoba.
This website has separately learnt that after knocking the band members’ boat, the boater would later park it at Ggaba Beach House and ran away.
Following the capsizing of the boat, other revelers at Ggaba Beach House heard loud cries and alarms for helping and rushed to the scene before they were joined by police to the rescue.
Rusoke said both boats are currently parked at the Police Marine detach at Ggaba as investigations continue under under SD ref. 21/01/12 /2024 .
The Police spokesperson however urged members of the public to be vigilant while traveling on water, urging the wearing of safety gears including life jackets all the time.
