Police Investigate Fire Outbreak at St James Primary School

Police have launched an investigation into a fire outbreak that struck St. James Primary School in Bbina, Nakawa Division, causing extensive damage earlier today.

The fire, which broke out in the early hours, destroyed four classrooms—P2 Elite, P4 West, P3 Elite, and P3 West—leaving their roofs in ruins and damaging iron sheets.

Books stored in these classrooms were also lost in the fire.

In addition to the classroom destruction, three staff houses were completely burnt.

The houses, occupied by teachers Willison Kawanguzi, Joseph Malikisi, and Nathan Nima, suffered total losses, with all property inside destroyed.

Police officers from Jinja Road Police Station swiftly arrived on the scene to secure the area, gather witness statements, and assist with firefighting efforts alongside the fire brigade trucks that were dispatched.

There were no injuries, and the damage was limited to property.

SSP P. Onyango, police spokesperson, confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the fire’s origin and to evaluate safety protocols at the school to prevent future incidents.

Authorities have indicated that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
