Malabo, Equatorial Guinea – In a bold move to uphold integrity within the government, Vice President Teodoro Nguema has announced an immediate suspension of sexual relations in public offices following a scandal involving Baltasar Ebang Engonga, the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF).
“Today we will proceed with the immediate suspension of all officials who have had sexual relations in the offices of the country’s ministries,” said Nguema in a statement on X on Monday evening after Ebang’s sex tapes went viral on social media.
“This action represents a decisive step in the government’s “zero tolerance” policy towards conduct that undermines public trust,’” he added.
Engonga is under intense scrutiny after explicit videos allegedly surfaced, reportedly showing him engaged in sexual activities with multiple women in government workplaces.
The videos, said to have been discovered on Engonga’s work computer, depict encounters with several women, including high-profile individuals and relatives of influential figures within the government.
Notably, the alleged participants include Engonga’s brother’s wife, a cousin, and even the sister of the President, raising serious ethical concerns about conduct within the administration.
Arrest
Engonga’s troubles escalated significantly when he was arrested last week amid allegations of misuse of office and breaches of public trust.
Engonga’s position as head of the ANIF, an agency responsible for combating financial crimes and promoting transparency, adds another layer of irony to the scandal given the gravity of the accusations against him.
“The Government will take severe measures against these acts, since it constitutes a flagrant violation of the Code of Conduct and the Public Ethics Law,” said Nguema in reference to sexual relations in offices.
This scandal has sparked outrage among the public and has dominated social media discussions in Equatorial Guinea and beyond recent days.
Nguema reinforced the administration’s dedication to professionalism and ethical standards, stating, “Ethics and respect are fundamental in our administration, and we will not allow irresponsible behavior to compromise public trust. Responsibility and professionalism must be the pillars of our work as servants of the State.”
