Catholic priest dies in Ibanda accident
The Catholic community in Ibanda District is mourning the untimely death of Rev. Fr. Wycliff Byamugisha, who tragically lost his life in a fatal road accident on Sunday.
The accident occurred along the Mbarara-Ibanda highway, near Nyahoora Trading Centre, while Fr. Byamugisha was en route to celebrate mass.
Fr. Byamugisha served as a priest at Nyabukikye Center Catholic Church, where he was known for his deep faith and dedication to his congregation.
His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew and admired him.
Father Charles Mutabaruka, the head of communications for the Mbarara Catholic Archdiocese, expressed profound sorrow over the loss.
“It is so unfortunate that we have lost Father Byamugisha. We ask God to keep us strong in this trying moment,” he said, emphasizing the impact of the tragedy on the diocese and the Catholic community.
Rwizi Region Police spokesperson Samson Kasasira confirmed the accident and stated that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash. “As police, we have already begun investigations to understand what led to this tragic incident,” he told the Nile Post.
Fr. Byamugisha’s body was taken to Ruhoko Health Center IV for a postmortem examination, as authorities continue to gather information about the accident.
The sudden death of Fr. Byamugisha has left a profound sense of grief in the community he served with unwavering dedication.
