Appearing before the parliament committee on security the minister for internal affairs Gen. Kahinda Ottaffire found difficult times to convince the committee members on the need to increase the sum of money one should pay to replace his lost national identity card, the minister and national identification registration authority wants the Id replacement be elevated from 50,000 to 20000 Ug. Shs.
According to the minister this will help to curb reluctance amongst individuals in possession of national ids.


This was opposed by the members on committee some of who say it will bring a disparity in communities between those who have ids and those who cannot afford
The minister further disclosed that those who will have made some errors during registration will also fall victims of paying for their ill-fated information on the IDs. However, the first timers will not pay any monies as it has been since time in memorial.


Government hopes to collect 160 billion shilling in the issuance of these national ids in different categories which includes, those who want express national ids are anticipated to be 1,700,000 amounting to 87 billion shillings, those for express renewal are hoped to be 1,500,000 producing a sum of 75billion revenue, for replacement are anticipated to be 1000 people, with revenue collection of 200million shillings, and those for change of information on the national id are estimated to be 1000 with revenue collection of 200millions. The government will spend 600 billion in the upcoming registration of 17 million people who be receiving national ids for the first time and 20million people who will be renewing their id until 2025.
