The Muslim Community in Mbarara has requested President Museveni to fulfil the pledge he made to them four years ago.
Mr Museveni pledged 200 million shillings to the Muslims in 2019 when he laid a foundation stone for the Abubakar complex, a project that is being undertaken by Muslims in Mbarara City.
The President also Pledged 50 million shillings to Mbarara Muslim District Saving and Credit Cooperative Savings Organisation.
The six-floor Building which will accommodate the Regional Khadi’s Office, the District’s Main Mosque, a General Hospital and a business centre is budgeted to cost 5 billion shillings.
During the fundraising function on Friday at the Abubakar main mosque the District Khadi of Mbarara, Sheikh Abdulla Mukwaya said that if they receive the president’s pledge they are hopeful that the work will be completed.
He said they have decided to go through the Members of Parliament because they have tried every avenue including writing a letter and reminding him of the pledge in vain.
In his teaching, the district Khadi said that Uganda today needs unity, noting that politics should be left outside of things that build the country.
Solomon Silwanyi the Bukooli County Member of parliament who represented the Speaker of Parliament as the chief guest at the function that called for unity amongst all religions saying that this will bring development to the people of God.
Other Members of Parliament that included the Dokolo Woman Member of Parliament Cecilia Ogwal preached love and unity amongst the electorates despite the country being under a multiparty dispensation.
Hon Mwine Mpaka Rwamirama asked the Muslims to be patient and calm noting that the President was aware of their pledge and will soon fulfil it.
At the function, a total of 190 Million shillings was raised in cash and pledge.
