Gunmen Kill Security Guard at MTN Service Centre in Buwenge
Two private security guards have been detained following the fatal shooting of their colleague at an MTN Service Centre in Buwenge, Jinja District.
John Ssabagabo, 20, and Patrick Obbo, 40, both employed by Wolves Security, were on duty at the MTN location when the incident occurred.
Police apprehended the two to assist in the investigation.
The shooting took place around 1am on Wednesday when two unidentified gunmen attacked the guards at the MTN Service Centre.
Tragically, Calvin Abia, a security guard from Ultimate Security, was shot and killed during the confrontation.
According to reports, Abia, who was assigned to EV Assets Management Company Limited, had left his post to check on Ssabagabo, with whom he previously worked at Wolves Security in Jinja City.
During the attack, Abia was struck by a single bullet to the head. His body has been taken to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Police recovered a cartridge case from the scene, which has been submitted for forensic analysis. A sniffer dog was also deployed to aid in evidence collection, and the police have launched a search for the gunmen and the SAR rifle used in the attack.
Kiira Region Police Spokesperson SP James Mubi urged the public to come forward with any information that might lead to the capture of the suspects, assuring confidentiality to those who provide information.
The tragic incident has raised concerns about the safety of security personnel and the protocols in place to protect them.
