The government of Ethiopia has invited Uganda’s Chief of Land Forces commander, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba to visit the country.
Gen Muhoozi, who also doubles as Senior Presidential Advisor in charge of Special Operations, was invited by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to discuss regional security.
“It is true, he will be going to Addis Ababa at the invitation of the government there,” confirmed Land Forces spokesperson, Lt Col Chris Magezi when contacted by this website on Saturday afternoon. “Gen Muhoozi will be in Addis Ababa soon,” he added.
Muhoozi has strong views about the conflict in Ethiopia. He, however, recently tweeted that he had “never had a problem with my brother, His Excellency Abiy Ahmed, in fact I respect him. All we want is peace in Ethiopia.”

The development comes hardly a month after president Museveni received and held talks with the Ethiopian Ambassador to Uganda, Alemtsehay Meseret Gelaw State House, Entebbe. The President and Meseret discussed the economic and security situation in the region.
“The correct thing is dialogue so that all concerned will have a win-win situation,” President Museveni observed in regard to the conflict in Ethiopia. Muhoozi also met Amb Meseret, saying both had “very friendly and frank discussions. We talked about the long history between Uganda and Ethiopia. We pray for peace and reconciliation in Ethiopia!”

Muhoozi recently championed efforts to restore relations between Uganda and Rwanda. He also visited Egypt where he held talks with President Al Sisi. Egypt has been at loggerheads with Addis Ababa over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
