3 Injured as Car Burns Up in Fiery Crash at Namboole Flyover

Three people sustained injuries and a saloon car was torched to its last frame at the Namboole flyover on the Kireka-Bweyogerere road on Friday morning.

The incident occurred around 6:30am Friday, a wet and foggy morning as rain pounded Kampala and several parts of the country.

The crash involved a Nissan Fuga (registration UBG 615A) and a commuter taxi (registration UAX 036F).

According to preliminary reports, the Nissan, traveling from Bweyogerere towards Kireka, collided head-on with the Toyota Hiace coming from the opposite direction.

The collision resulted in the Nissan catching fire and it was burnt to its frames.

The injured include both drivers and a passenger in the saloon car. The Toyota Hiace driver was transported to Gwatilo Hospital, while the Nissan driver was taken to Nakasero Hospital.

SP Michael Kananura, the spokeperson for Traffic and Road Safety, urged drivers to be cautious, particularly in adverse weather.

“Due to heavy rainfall and limited visibility, we urge motorists to prioritize road safety. If visibility is poor, please park and wait for the weather to clear,” he said.

The Toyata Hiace and what was left of the Nissan saloon car have been towed to Bweyogerere Police Station as investigations continue.
