Minister Nankabirwa Vows to Take Action Against Oil Companies

Minister of Power and Natural Resources, Ruth Nankabirwa, has issued a stern warning to oil companies accused of siphoning fuel meant for Ugandans, stating that her ministry will “bite” those involved if the illegal activities do not cease immediately.

Speaking during the opening of the Electricity Exhibition, which runs from 28th October to 2nd November, Nankabirwa expressed her dissatisfaction with reports of fuel theft, highlighting the impact it has on Ugandan consumers and the economy. The exhibition, part of the “Energy and Mineral Week” organized by the Ministry of Power and Mineral Resources, aims to showcase developments in Uganda’s energy sector while addressing the challenges it faces.

The Minister’s comments come amid rising concerns over fuel shortages and price hikes, with many Ugandans calling for stricter regulation and oversight of the oil sector. Nankabirwa reassured the public that her ministry would take decisive action to curb any wrongdoing, urging oil companies to operate within the law or face severe consequences.
