Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has come to the rescue of lawmakers struggling to access reports on their iPads.
Some MPs complained about difficulties navigating the devices, prompting Among to request assistance from Parliament’s Information and Technology Department.
“We need to ensure our MPs have the tools and knowledge to effectively perform their duties,” Among emphasised.
This issue raises concerns about the utilisation of the Shs2.3 billion spent on purchasing iPads for the 529 MPs and 26 ex-officio members in July 2021.
With each iPad costing approximately Shs4.2 million, expectations are high for seamless access to parliamentary reports.
The Speaker’s intervention aims to bridge the technological gap and enhance legislative efficiency.
As Parliament continues to adapt to digital advancements, ensuring MPs’ proficiency in using these tools is crucial for effective governance.
“This is not just about accessing reports; it’s about harnessing technology to drive meaningful change,” Among noted.
By addressing these challenges, Parliament can optimize its investment in digital infrastructure and foster a more informed, connected, and productive legislative environment.
