Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng has confirmed that by September, 42 districts across Uganda had reported outbreaks of measles, raising concerns about the spread of the highly contagious disease. The Ministry of Health has responded by launching targeted interventions in 30 of the affected districts to contain the outbreaks.
Dr. Aceng further announced that the Ministry is planning a nationwide “catch-up” immunization campaign in November, aimed at addressing gaps in vaccination coverage and preventing further outbreaks. The upcoming campaign is part of the Ministry’s efforts to protect vulnerable populations, particularly children, who are most at risk of severe complications from measles.
The rise in measles cases highlights the need for increased vigilance in vaccination programs, as health authorities work to curb the spread of the disease across the country.
